In the Name of Allah The most Gracious The Most Merciful
Proof of Allah’s Ascension:
Indeed your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He rose over (Istawa) the throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment.Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinn and all that exists)! (Surah Al-A’raf 7:54)
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه): The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, “When Allah has ordained some affair in the Heaven, the angels beat with their wings in obedience to His statement, which sounds like a chain dragged over a rock.” (‘Ali and other sub-narrators said, “The sound reaches them.”) “Until when fear is banished from their (angels) hearts, they (angels) say, ‘What was it that your Lord said? They say, ‘The truth; And He is the Most High, the Most Great… (sahih al-bukhari, book of Prophetic Commentary on the Quran, hadith 223)
From Abu hurairah (رضي الله عنه), who said that the messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, “When Allah Created the Creation He wrote in His Book, and it is with Him above the Arsh: Verily My Mercy has preceded My Anger.” (Reported by Bukhari, Book of beginning of creation, hadith 416)
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه): Allah’s Apostle said, “When it is the last third of the night, our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, descends every night to the heaven of the world and says, ‘Is there anyone who invokes Me (demand anything from Me), that I may respond to his invocation; Is there anyone who asks Me for something that I may give (it to) him; Is there anyone who asks My forgiveness that I may forgive him?’ ” (Sahih al-bukhari, book of invocations, Hadith 333)
Mu’awiya b. al-Hakam (رضي الله عنه) said: … “I had a Slave girl who tended goats by the side of Uhud and Jawwaniya. One day I happened to pass that way and found that a wolf had carried a goat from her flock. I am after all a man from the children of Adam. I felt sorry as they (human beings) feel sorry. So I slapped her. I came to the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) and felt (this act of mine) as something grievous.” I said: “Oh Messenger of Allah, should I not set her free?” He said: “Bring her to me.” So I brought her to him. He said to her: “Where is Allah?” She said: “Above the heavens.” He said: “Who am I?” She said: “You are the Messenger of Allah.” He said: “Free her for verily she is a believing woman.” (Reported by Muslim, The book of prayers, Hadith 1094)
The people of innovation claim that it is haram to take these ahadeeth and ayat (verses) as literal things. So my question to them is then will you deny the whole creation of the heavens and the earth and say it is a metaphor? as Allah says in several places in the quran as stated above that He created the heavens and earth in six days then rose above his throne. Is it then that the creation of the heavens and earth was not in six days as well? is it just a metaphor? Is His creation a metaphor as well? How can you deny half the ayah and say it is a metaphor or not to be taken literally when Allah Himself is informing us about how He created the heavens and earth and then rose above His throne?
The problem that people of innovation have is they begin to imagine the attributes of Allah and say how can you say such a thing then they quote how Allah says: “There is nothing like him; and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.” (Surah Ash-Shura, 42:11). There is nothing like Allah but who said there was? They say we are limiting Allah by believing He is in a place (over the heavens) and they say that He described Himself like this so the kuffar would understand the message. Are you not then limiting Allah by saying that He has to say something that is not true about Himself so people worship him? We seek refuge in Allah from such claims. Allah is not in need for people to worship Him so this is an absolutely ignorant statement that their “so called scholars” have come up with due to their lack of guidance and understanding of this religion.
