In the Name of Allah The most Gracious The Most Merciful
The Prophet took part in 13 battles for the sake of Allah and to spread the word of the Most High. The small Muslim armies were always outnumbered in fighters but their heart and Eeman made up for the disadvantage. Knowing that their lord was there to see over them and to aid them in all their affairs gave them reassurance while they were fighting. They would either be victorious or they would die in the sake of Allah and be rewarded with the highest rewards for it. Their deep faith and reliance on Allah helped them get past very hard times. When it seemed like victory was nowhere in sight, as Allah says in the Qur`an: …even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, “When (will come) the Help of Allah?” Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near! (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:214) Allah gave them strength and aided them in many different ways, whether by sending angels down to aid in the fighting or causing natural disasters for the disbelievers.
(Remember) when you sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): “I will help you with a thousand of the angels each behind the other (following one another) in succession.” (Surah Al-Anfal 8:9)
